World Cup, CONCACAF & Beyond: What We Do & Don't Want to See in Soccer in 2026

Read on as the FP Crew share their innermost wants and unwants (is that a word?) for the year 2026 and FIFA World Cup.

1. No Injuries, No Excuses

May there be no injuries for Canada so we can have the best 23 or 26 possible and a no excuses attitude, including how Jesse Marsch used to speak during tournaments.

In 2022, there was an awe struckness and look of being overwhelmed to Canada, the latter stemming from either the occasion, the coaching or something else.

Give us full squads with full health, confidence and pitch authority, without apology.

2. Canadian Fan Support at Home & Away

May Canadian fans come out in NUMBERS and really supporting our national team.

If we do get into the next rounds, and if they are playing south of the border, have a huge travelling fan base come and support them because they deserve it.

CONCACAF Progress

May CONCACAF teams showcase well in the FIFA World Cup and go as far as they can. Take advantage of being at home. The further they go, the better it is for our region of CONCACAF.

Culture & Food Represented

May the dishes of qualified countries be represented at FIFA World Cup stadiums. If not possible, may their dishes be properly showcased by others around the tournament somehow.

Haiti & Others Thriving on the World Stage

May Haiti and other countries called out by certain host nation leadership perform really, really well. World Cup is a good opportunity for all these countries and countries that can benefit the most from the tournament have the most to gain.

Key Players Going For It

In order to be successful, you need your big guns to be your big guns, your goalkeepers to come up with timely saves, and you need your wild card.

May big guns like Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanan and Jonathan David show up and be Canada’s game breakers. Our goalkeeper, whether Dayne or Max, also needs to come up massive in big moments.

Plus, we can’t wait to see who could our wild card be. Koné? Sigur? Promise? Bombito? Laryea? A sub? SUPERSUB?

Growth of the Game in Canada

May the vibe around the FIFA World Cup result in Northern Super League (NSL) and Canadian Premier League (CPL) seeing their attendance figures increase dramatically and that a lot of new fans are introduced to the sport and want to see more.

Whether through League1 Canada, or the leagues above, go out and support local football.

What We DON’T Want To See

❌ Too many replays that make you miss actual gameplay
❌ Embellishment (Faking, diving, trying to get players sent off)
❌ Risks to Fans (Hatred, fans pulled from stands, fear of attending)
❌ Terrible performances by Canadian MLS clubs (be competitive!)
